SISOMICIN

SISOMICIN

Chemically and Pharmacokin-etically similar to gentamicin but somewhat more potent on Pseudomonas few other gram-negative. bacilli and B haemolytic Streptococci. It is moderately active on faecal streptococci can be combined with penicillin for SABE

Indications

Septicaemia, Respiratory, urinary tract infections. Burns.


Dosage

3 mg/kg body wt in 3 divided doses.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity to amino- glycosides.


Special Precautions

Renal impairment. Drug interaction occurs with other aminoglycosides, cephalo-sporins, amphotericin, cephalothin, vancomycin, cisplatin, methoxyflurane, diuretics, anaesthetics. Paediatrics: Use with caution. Pregnancy: Contraindicated. Lactation: Contraindicated. Elderly: Use with caution.


Side Effects

Ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity, Proteinuria azotemia, oliguria, tinnitus, ataxia, vertigo, deafness, C.N.S disturbances , convulsions, tremor, nystagmus


Drug Interactions

Potentiates nephrotoxicity produced by drugs like aminoglycosides vancomycin and some cephalosporins & ototoxicity produced by drugs like aminoglycosides, ethacryanic acid. Plasma levels increased by indomethacin . Incompatible with some betalactam antibiotics.
