AIIMS resident doctors donating blood

AIIMS doctors set an example, donate blood to save lives

Showing the way to the common man that there is no harm in donating blood, Delhi-AIIMS doctors came forward to donate blood to save the lives of patients at a mega blood donation camp which was jointly organised by the institute's Blood Bank Department and Resident Doctors Association on March 1, 2023.

It may be noted that many patients succumb to injuries or diseases due to a lack of blood. Many of the patients keep waiting for blood transfusions so that they undergo successful surgeries but delays in the availability of blood endanger their lives.

There are occasions when patients’ relatives express reluctance to donate blood when it is required the most. But, AIIMS doctors set an example and donated blood.

Dr Jaswant Jangra, President of the Resident Doctors Association, Delhi-AIIMS, said that the objective of these drives (blood donation camp) is to help patients of thalassemia, trauma, cancer, ICU patients; pregnant women who remain in dire need of blood and its components before surgeries.

“Such blood donation drives are conducted every year by RDA - AIIMS New Delhi,” Dr Jangra added.

Dr Jangra informed that more than 230 units of blood were donated by 4: 00 PM.  Prof Dr M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, New Delhi inaugurated the camp. A large number of resident doctors, MBBS students and other AIIMS staff came forward to donate blood. The camp will continue till 5:00 PM today.
