The All India Pre and Para Clinical Medicos (AIPCMA) has demanded the removal of provision of non-medical teachers in the medical colleges.
Addressing the press in Delhi, they said that they applaud the National Medical Commission’s effort to enhance medical education quality in India, yet they seek further improvements.
The medicos demanded that a strict requirement of holding a recognised medical degree and registration must be compulsory for individuals to become teachers in medical colleges.
Dr Abhinav Purohit, National President, AIPCMA, said, Similar to other professional degrees such as LLB, B Tech, Pharmacy, Nursing, Ayurveda, and Homepathy, a strict requirement of holding a recognised medical degree and registration must be compulsory for individuals to become teachers in medical colleges.
Prof Dr CM Kamaal, Vice President, AIPCMA, said, “Through this press conference, we aim to highlight this technical gap in medical teachers qualification regulations and demand the abolition of this provision. Mere deficiency should not be a reason for compromising quality. We also express our gratitude for the reduction in percentage of non-medical teachers as a positive development.
Dr Vinod Chipa, Member, AIPCMA, said, “We are also going to organise ‘Gratitude Gathering’ at Jantar Mantar on September 17, 2023, during which, along with expressing gratitude, we will raise a demand to completely abolish this provision.”
