Prof. Soumya Swaminathan Appointed Principal Advisor for National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme

Prof. (Dr.) Soumya Swaminathan has been appointed as the Principal Advisor at the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme. Her role is on a pro bono basis.

In her new position, Prof. Swaminathan will provide technical advice on the overall strategy to achieve the programme's goals. She will suggest policy directions and necessary course corrections to ensure optimal outcomes. Additionally, she will advise on research strategy and assist in forming expert groups with top global talent. She will also support the Union Health Ministry, state officials, and development partners in assessing the programme's impact.

Prof. Swaminathan brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the Chief Scientist at the World Health Organization and as the Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
