Tata Memorial Hospital Alumni Refute Navjot Singh Sidhu’s Claims on Cancer Cure

A recent statement by alumni of Tata Memorial Hospital, backed by 262 oncologists has strongly countered claims made by former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu regarding his wife’s breast cancer recovery. Sidhu, in a widely circulated video, attributed his wife’s recovery to dietary changes and alternative remedies such as turmeric, neem, and intermittent fasting, suggesting that “starving the cancer” by avoiding dairy and sugar was a key part of her treatment.

The statement from the oncologists categorically dismissed these claims, emphasizing the lack of high-quality evidence supporting such approaches. "Parts of the video imply that avoiding dairy and sugar, and consuming haldi (turmeric) and neem, helped cure her 'incurable' cancer. These statements have no robust scientific backing," the statement read.

Highlighting the potential dangers of misinformation, the oncologists urged the public to seek professional medical advice rather than relying on unproven remedies. “We urge individuals not to delay treatment by following unproven methods but to consult a doctor, preferably a cancer specialist, if they have any symptoms of cancer,” the statement continued.

The alumni reiterated that cancer is treatable, especially when detected early, and that proven medical treatments such as surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy remain the cornerstone of effective cancer care.

The oncologists’ statement serves as a reminder of the importance of evidence-based medical practices and the potential risks of promoting alternative treatments without scientific validation. It also underscores the critical need for public awareness about verified cancer treatments and early detection.
