Over 73 Crore Ayushman Bharat Health IDs Created as India Advances Digital Health Mission

The Government of India has achieved a major milestone in its digital healthcare initiative, with over 73.9 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs) created under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, shared this information in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, highlighting the government’s commitment to building a robust national digital health ecosystem.

The ABDM, launched with the vision of integrating healthcare services through digital means, provides citizens with a unique 14-digit health identifier, formerly known as Health IDs. This initiative is designed to streamline healthcare access by enabling seamless digital health records for individuals across the country, making medical history easily accessible and improving continuity of care.

To ensure widespread participation in the mission, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has undertaken extensive awareness campaigns targeting eligible beneficiaries. A comprehensive Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) strategy has been deployed to inform citizens about their entitlements under the scheme. The outreach includes outdoor advertisements at railway and bus stations, digital displays at ticket counters, and announcements on passenger trains and major transport hubs.

The campaign also extends to print and digital media, with national and regional newspaper coverage, op-eds, and advertorials aimed at enhancing public understanding. Additionally, radio and television promotions, including testimonials from beneficiaries aired on Doordarshan, have been instrumental in spreading awareness. The government has also utilized mass messaging through SMS and traditional media channels to ensure that the information reaches the maximum number of people.

With nearly 74 crore ABHA IDs already created, the initiative marks a transformative step in India’s healthcare landscape. By integrating digital health records and enhancing accessibility, ABDM is paving the way for a more efficient and inclusive healthcare system, ensuring that every citizen can benefit from a seamless and well-connected medical infrastructure.
