Take Charge of Your Health: A Women’s Day Reminder on Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention

Imagine this—you’re always looking out for your family, making sure everyone is healthy and taken care of. But what about you? This International Women’s Day, Shahdara Red Cross Hospital sent out a powerful message: your health matters too.

At a free cancer screening camp organized by the hospital, Dr. Mamta Tyagi, a member of the Indian Red Cross Hospital, Shahdara, urged women to make self-care a priority. She explained that a simple self-breast examination—something you can do at home by pressing your hand against your chest wall—could be a lifesaver. “Start this practice in your mid-20s,” she advised. “If you feel anything unusual—like a lump or hardness—don’t wait. Consult a gynecologist immediately.”

And it’s not just breast cancer that needs attention. Dr. Tyagi emphasized the importance of cervical cancer screenings, pointing out that unusual bleeding, bleeding during intercourse, and foul-smelling discharge could be warning signs. The culprit? Human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a leading cause of cervical cancer. But here’s the good news: a simple Pap smear test can help detect it early, making treatment more effective.

Dr. Tyagi left women with a heartfelt message: “You are the foundation of your family and society. To care for others, you must first take care of yourself. Be strong, be healthy, and make your well-being a priority.”

The event at Shahdara Red Cross Hospital served as a wake-up call for women everywhere. This Women’s Day, let’s not just celebrate strength—let’s practice it. A little awareness, a little action, and a lot of self-care can go a long way in keeping you healthy for years to come.
