AIIMS to Raise Awareness on Glaucoma on World Glaucoma Day

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, is set to mark World Glaucoma Day with a series of awareness initiatives aimed at educating the public about glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness. The event will focus on early detection, risk factors, and the importance of regular eye check-ups to prevent vision loss.

Glaucoma, often called the “silent thief of sight,” progresses without noticeable symptoms in its early stages, making timely diagnosis crucial. Experts at AIIMS emphasize that people over 40, those with a family history of glaucoma, diabetics, and individuals with high myopia are at greater risk.

As part of the awareness drive, AIIMS will conduct free eye screening camps, interactive sessions with ophthalmologists, and public lectures to highlight the need for routine eye examinations. Specialists will also discuss advancements in glaucoma management, including laser therapies and minimally invasive surgical options.

Glaucoma is a major public health challenge, but early intervention can prevent blindness. Regular eye check-ups and timely treatment are key to preserving vision. Our initiative aims to reach as many people as possible and stress the importance of awareness

With millions affected by glaucoma worldwide, AIIMS' efforts on World Glaucoma Day serve as a critical reminder for individuals to prioritize eye health and seek professional care before it's too late.
