Delhi Chief Minister Speaking At Sir Ganga Ram Hospital

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Celebrates 70 Years of Healing and Hope on Founder's Day

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, a name synonymous with excellence in healthcare, celebrated its Founder’s Day with heartfelt tributes and reflections on a 70-year journey that began with the vision of one man — Sir Ganga Ram.  Established in 1954 in the heart of Delhi, the hospital has grown to become a trusted institution, treating thousands of patients each year with advanced medical technology and deep compassion.

On this special day, the hospital community came together not only to mark the milestone but also to honour the legacy of its remarkable founder.  Sir Ganga Ram, born on April 13, 1851 — a day now celebrated as Baisakhi — was more than just a successful engineer; he was a visionary and a generous philanthropist. His dream was simple yet profound: to provide the best possible healthcare to the community, regardless of background or wealth. Today, his dream lives on through the hospital that bears his name.

“On Baisakhi day, our founder, an excellent engineer and great philanthropist of his time, was born. On this very day, the foundation stones of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in both Lahore and Delhi were laid,” said Dr. D.S. Rana, Chairman of Sir Ganga Ram Trust Society, Padma Shri Awardee and renowned nephrologist.

“We pay homage to his soul, which continues to inspire us. At Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, we work by the motto: Love all, serve all, help all, and hurt never.”  The celebration began with floral tributes and heartfelt remembrances, followed by the hospital’s performance report for the year 2024–25, presented by Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of the Board of Management.

“April 13 is not only Baisakhi in North India, but also Rongali Bihu in Assam and Vishu in Kerala — a day of joy and renewal across the country,” Dr. Swaroop noted. “For us, it holds even greater meaning. It marks the birth of our founder and the day on which two great institutions — first in Lahore in 1921, then in Delhi in 1954 — began their service to humanity. We begin every Founder’s Day by paying homage to his guiding spirit.”

As part of the celebration, the hospital honoured long-serving and outstanding employees who have played vital roles in the hospital’s growth. Staff and doctors also came together for an in-house cultural program, followed by a community lunch that fostered a spirit of unity and gratitude.

With a legacy built on compassion, dedication, and the vision of one extraordinary man, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital continues to stand tall — a beacon of hope and healing in the heart of Delhi for the past seven decades.
