Medanta Celebrates International Yoga Day, Championing Holistic Health Across Delhi-NCR
In a powerful demonstration of its commitment to preventive healthcare and holistic well-being, Medanta – The Medicity, India’s top-ranked private hospital by Newsweek for six consecutive years, led the celebrations of the 11th International Yoga Day with large-scale events and community outreach across Delhi-NCR.
Partnering with the Art of Living Foundation, Medanta organized two prominent events on its hospital premises — on the green lawns and in its auditorium — drawing nearly 200 enthusiastic participants. Among them was Dr. Kartikeya Bhargava, Senior Director of Electrophysiology and Cardiac Care at Medanta, who emphasized the vital role yoga can play in improving heart health and managing stress, especially in today’s fast-paced lives.
Expanding the initiative beyond hospital walls, Medanta also supported yoga sessions in collaboration with local Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in Gurugram and Noida, and at the Defence Colony Club in New Delhi. Altogether, these activities engaged over 1,000 individuals, amplifying this year’s International Yoga Day theme — Yoga for One Earth, One Health — and reinforcing the hospital’s dedication to community health and preventive care.
Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta, underscored the deeper significance of the occasion. “Yoga is one of the most powerful tools we have for preventive healthcare. It strengthens the body, calms the mind, and enhances immunity — all of which are essential for a healthy life in today’s fast-paced world,” he said. “Practices like Pranayama and Anulom Vilom can improve lung function, regulate blood pressure, and help manage stress, which is a leading cause of many chronic illnesses. At Medanta, we believe true healthcare begins long before disease strikes, and yoga is central to that philosophy. This aligns perfectly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to turn International Yoga Day into a global movement for holistic well-being.”
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Bhargava highlighted the increasing relevance of yoga in modern medicine. “It was heartening to see such enthusiastic participation. Yoga, though ancient, is highly relevant today. It helps regulate cardiovascular functions, lowers blood pressure, and improves heart rate variability — all critical for heart health. It also alleviates stress, anxiety, and chronic pain, and improves sleep and emotional resilience. For individuals dealing with chronic diseases like diabetes, arthritis, or cardiovascular conditions, yoga offers a safe and effective complementary therapy.”
As a pioneer in blending traditional wellness practices with contemporary medical science, Medanta continues to advocate for evidence-based integration of yoga into routine health care. Through these initiatives, the hospital reaffirms its mission to empower individuals to take charge of their health and create a stronger, more resilient society rooted in preventive wellness.
