A social activist has alleged that he was assaulted by security personnel inside Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Delhi, triggering protests by journalists and civil society members who have demanded an impartial investigation into the incident.

According to social activist Hardeep Khatri, he visited the hospital on the 6th of the month to document what he described as shortcomings in the hospital's functioning. He claimed that as soon as he took out his mobile phone to record videos, security guards and bouncers stopped him and allegedly took him to a room, where he was physically assaulted.

Khatri further alleged that his mobile phone was forcibly taken away, he was compelled to disclose its password, and the videos he had recorded, along with other data on the device, were deleted. He also claimed that he was threatened and verbally abused before being allowed to leave.

The activist said the matter was reported to the police, but alleged that no significant action has been taken so far. In response, journalists and social activists staged a peaceful protest outside the hospital, demanding a transparent inquiry and strict action if the allegations are found to be true.

Members of the Delhi Patrakar Ekta Group, who accompanied the activist, said the hospital's Managing Director met Khatri following the protest and assured him that the matter would be examined through a departmental inquiry. According to the protesters, the MD also said she was not aware of any alleged aggressive behaviour by the hospital's security guards or bouncers towards patients or visitors.

The hospital administration has not publicly responded to the specific allegations, and the police have also not issued an official statement on the matter at the time of filing this report.

The allegations made by the activist are yet to be independently verified. The outcome of the police inquiry and the hospital's internal investigation is now awaited.
