Jawahar Lal Nehru Hospital in Ajmer will get ₹240 crore in government funds for repair and development, significantly improving the region's public healthcare facilities. Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani offered a Diwali gift of ₹191 crore for the construction of a super-speciality block. This is in addition to the ₹50 crore previously earmarked for hospital renovations. 

According to media sources, the new block promises to provide full super-speciality services, allowing patients in the Ajmer division to receive sophisticated medical care without having to go to Delhi or Jaipur. The plan for the super-speciality block was fully authorised in accordance with the budget release. "This is a historic moment for our hospital," stated Dr Anil Samaria, Principal of Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College. 

The project will be funded in three phases: ₹65 crore in the first, ₹64 crore in the second, and ₹62 crore in the third. This staged approach will allow the hospital to gradually expand its facilities while maintaining current services. The project will be erected on the site of the former tuberculosis hospital, combining modern infrastructure with innovative medical technologies. 

The super-speciality block will initially house departments of urology, nephrology, and neurology. Endocrinology, cancer, and plastic surgery will be covered in subsequent rounds. The ground level of the facility will have full air conditioning, a welcome area, an outpatient department (OPD), and a diagnostic centre. The upper floors will house intensive care units (ICUs), operating rooms, post-operative wards, and other patient care areas. A rooftop helipad will house air ambulances for emergency medical services, ensuring prompt patient transport in severe situations. 

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma supported the project during the state budget announcement, emphasising the hospital's role in improving regional healthcare services. Assembly Speaker Devnani emphasised that this is the first time since Independence that such a large sum has been approved for the hospital's construction, highlighting the government's commitment to improving public healthcare infrastructure in Rajasthan. 

The enlarged facilities are projected to assist thousands of patients each year, particularly those with complicated medical needs who used to have to travel significant distances for super-speciality care. By offering regional access to high-quality care, the project closes major gaps in the state's healthcare delivery system. 

The hospital's development is consistent with larger national initiatives aimed at improving healthcare accessibility and quality in tier 2 and tier 3 cities. According to India's National Health Profile 2024, super-speciality services are concentrated in metropolitan areas, leaving many regional hospitals underequipped. Investments like Ajmer's new block seek to decentralise sophisticated healthcare, ensuring more equitable access throughout India. 

Dr Samaria continued: "With the new super-speciality block, our hospital will not only treat a wider range of complex cases but also serve as a training hub for medical professionals, contributing to the long-term strengthening of healthcare services in the region." 

As work advances, the Finance Department and state officials are actively monitoring the project to ensure its prompt completion and operational preparedness. Once operational, the super-speciality block at Jawahar Lal Nehru Hospital is projected to become a key component of Ajmer's public healthcare infrastructure, serving as a model for other rural hospitals across India.
