Heavy Rain Forces Postponement of ICMR High-Altitude Research Centre Event in Himachal

The foundation stone laying ceremony for the ICMR Centre for High Altitude Medicine and Public Health Research (ICMR CHAMP) in Keylong, Himachal Pradesh, has been postponed due to severe weather conditions in the region.

The event was scheduled to take place on July 11 in Keylong, located in the Lahaul and Spiti district. However, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced on Friday that continuous heavy rainfall and landslides have made travel to the area unsafe, forcing the postponement.

According to the ministry, the decision was taken to ensure the safety of everyone involved, as the bad weather has disrupted accessibility to the remote Himalayan region.

Officials said a fresh date for the foundation stone laying ceremony will be announced later. The ministry also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the postponement.

The upcoming ICMR CHAMP centre is expected to strengthen research on high-altitude medicine and public health, benefiting people living in India's mountainous regions.
