Bivalirudin

Bivalirudin

Bivalirudin is used to prevent blood clots in people with severe chest pain or other situations who are undergoing a procedure called angioplasty. Also be used for purposes not listed in this medicine guide.

Indications

Used as an anticoagulant in percutaneous coronary intervention.


Dosage

Adults : 750mcg/kg intravernously, followed by an infusion of 1.75mg/kg/hour during procedure and upto 4 hours postprocedure. If needed infusion may be continued at 0.2mg/kg/hour upto 24 hours. Reduce recommedded dose by 20% if CrCl is 30-59mL/min.


Contra-Indications

Active major bleeding, CrCl is - dependent patient.


Special Precautions

Recent major surgery, puncture of large vessels, organ biopsy, patients at risk of serious bleeding. Hepatic or renal impairment.


Side Effects

Nausea, vomiting dyspepsia, headache, anxiety, back pain, urinary retention, pain at injection site. Hypersensitivity reactions, bleeding, hypertension, hypotension, bradycardia.


Drug Interactions

Concomitant use with thrombolytics, oral anticoagulants or drugs that effect platelet function may increase risk of bleeding.
