Finerenone is a nonsteroidal selective mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA) used as a medication to treat certain cardiovascular and kidney conditions. It selectively blocks the effects of aldosterone, a hormone that can contribute to heart and kidney damage. Finerenone is a nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist.

Indications

-Finerenone is indicated for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and albuminuria, to reduce the risk of sustained decrease in kidney function, kidney failure, cardiovascular death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, and hospitalization for heart failure. -It is indicated to reduce the risk of sustained eGFR decline, end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and hospitalization for heart failure in adult patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) associated with type 2 diabetes (T2D).


Dosage

-The dosage of finerenone may vary depending on the patient's condition. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and administration instructions provided by the healthcare provider. -Oral; 10 to 20 mg once a day as per eGFR value/


Contra-Indications

-Finerenone is contraindicated in patients with hyperkalemia, severe hepatic impairment, or those receiving concomitant strong CYP3A inhibitors. -Hypersensitivity, patients receiving concomitant strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, in patients with adrenal insufficiency , grapejuice


Special Precautions

-Patients taking finerenone should be monitored for serum potassium levels regularly. It should be used cautiously in patients with moderate hepatic impairment, and adjustments may be necessary. -Monitor potassium levels. Paediatric: Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established Pregnancy: Data not sufficient Lactation: Data not sufficient Elderly: No overall differences in safety or efficacy were observed between these patients and younger patients. No dose adjustment is required.


Side Effects

-Common side effects of finerenone may include hyperkalemia, hypotension, and increases in blood creatinine. It is important to report any unusual or severe side effects to a healthcare professional promptly. -Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, irregular heartbeat, nervousness, numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips, stomach pain, trouble breathing, and weakness or heaviness in the legs
