ULIPRISTAL ACETATE

Ulipristal is an emergency contraceptive which delays the process of ovulation.

Indications

Emergency contraception in unprotected sex or suspected contraceptive failure.


Dosage

Oral; 30 mg once within 120 hours of unprotective sex or contraceptive failure.


Contra-Indications

Pregnancy.


Special Precautions

It should not be used for termination of pregnancy. It should not be used regularly and repeatedly. The menstrual cycle may delay or occur earlier. Reliable barrier method has to be used in the same menstrual cycle for contraception.


Side Effects

Headache, nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue, dizziness, dysmenorrhea.


Drug Interactions

Hormonal contraceptives, bosentan, barbiturates, felbamate, griseofulvin, carbamazapine, phenytoin, rifampicin, topiramate.
