The Resident Doctors Association of Delhi-AIIMS has urged the Health Minister of Punjab to initiate action against the administration of Government Medical College (GMC), Amritsar, for blaming lady doctors instead of ensuring their security.
“Multiple incidents of violence against resident doctors of GMC, Amritsar, have been reported and are shocking. Following these incidents, the apathy displayed by the hospital administration is highly condemnible,” reads the AIIMS-RDA letter to the Punjab Health Minister.
“We have been forced to bring this matter to your notice, in view of the callous attitude of the hospital administration, who, instead of ensuring security measures, are counter blaming the victim. They have shown poor professionalism by their irresponsible behavior,” adds the letter.
The letter states, “AIIMS RDA, in keeping with its principles of resident unity, requests you to intervene in the current matter, ensure adequate security measures and consider strict action against errant administrators of GMC Amritsar.”
On February 4,2019, two female resident doctors in Surgery Department were allegedly molested by the a security guard in the Guru Nanak Dev, Hospital. The hospital Medical Superintendent, instead of ensuring security to the residents, told one of the doctors: Sawari Apne Saman Ki Khud Zimmedar Hai.
