Ceftriaxone with Sulbactum
Ceftriaxone with Sulbactam is a combination of antibiotics that includes Ceftriaxone, a third-generation cephalosporin, and Sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. This combination is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections by preventing the degradation of ceftriaxone by beta-lactamase enzymes.-Intra-Abdominal Infections: Effective against infections within the abdominal cavity. -Respiratory Tract Infections: Used for pneumonia, bronchitis, and other respiratory infections. -Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Treats infections involving the skin and underlying tissues.
-Dosage is determined based on the specific infection, patient factors, and susceptibility of the causative bacteria. The combination is typically administered intravenously. -Adult : 1-2 grams given once a day. The total daily dose should not exceed 4 grams. Paediatric : 50-75mg/kg given once a day. The total daily dose should be not exceed 1 gram
-Hypersensitivity: Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to ceftriaxone, sulbactam, or other cephalosporins. -History of Severe Allergic Reactions: Caution in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
-Renal Impairment: Adjustments in dosage may be necessary in patients with renal dysfunction. -Hematologic Monitoring: Regular monitoring of blood counts is recommended during prolonged therapy.
Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, and injection site reactions. Serious side effects are rare but may include allergic reactions, superinfections, and changes in blood clotting parameters.
-Probenecid: May increase and prolong the therapeutic levels of ceftriaxone. -Aminoglycosides: Enhanced antibacterial effect when used concomitantly.
