Epinastine

Epinastine prevents itching of the eyes caused by allergies. Epinastine is an antihistaminic. It works by blocking the release of histamin, which reduces the symptoms of an allergic reaction.

Indications

(Opthalmic) Allergic conjunctivitis.

Dosage

Eye drops, Adults : as hydrochloride : Instill 1 drop of 0.05% soln. into each eye bid. Child: as hydrochloride : > 3 yrs: Same as adults dose.

Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity.

Special Precautions

Contact lenses should be removed prior to use since the formulation may contain benzalkonium chloride. It may be re-inserted after 10min. Children < 3 yrs. Pregnancy- Sufficient data not available (Category C), possible effects in animal, Lactation : Sufficient data not avaiable.

Side Effects

Headache, burning Sensation, Folliculosis, hyperacemia, pruritus, cough, pharyngitis, rhinitis, sinusitis.

Drug Interactions

Efavirenz (it may increase the risk of Epinastine's side effects). No significant drug interaction.
