Fludrocortisone Acetate

Indications

Partial replacement therapy for primary and secondary aderenocortical insuffciency in addison's disease and for treatment of salt losing adernogenital syndrome.

Dosage

-Adults: Typically, the initial dose ranges from 0.1 to 0.2 mg per day, depending on the severity of the condition. The dose may be adjusted based on patient response and blood pressure levels . -Children: The dosage must be individualized according to age, weight, and specific medical needs.

Contra-Indications

-Adrenal Insufficiency: Used in the management of adrenal insufficiency, such as in Addison's disease, to help maintain electrolyte balance. -Orthostatic Hypotension: Prescribed for certain cases of orthostatic hypotension when non-drug measures are ineffective.

Special Precautions

-Cardiovascular Conditions: Care should be taken when using fludrocortisone acetate in patients with heart failure, hypertension, or other heart conditions. -Electrolyte Imbalance: The drug may cause fluid retention, leading to edema and imbalances in sodium and potassium levels. -Infections: It may mask signs of infection, so careful monitoring is required. Bone Health: Prolonged use may impact bone density, increasing the risk of osteoporosis.

Drug Interactions
