GLICLAZIDE with METFORMIN
Gliclazide with Metformin is a combination medication used to manage blood sugar levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Gliclazide belongs to the sulfonylurea class, stimulating insulin release, while Metformin is a biguanide that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces glucose production in the liver.-Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Used to control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise alone are insufficient. -Non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.
-Dosage is determined based on individual patient factors, blood glucose levels, and response to treatment. The combination is usually administered orally, typically with meals. -1-2 tab once or twice daily with meals. Max.: 4 tab daily.
-Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus: Contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes. -Renal Impairment: Avoid in patients with severe renal dysfunction or undergoing dialysis. -Hypersensitivity: Contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to gliclazide, metformin, or related components.
-Liver Impairment: Use with caution in patients with liver dysfunction. -Heart Failure: Monitor patients with heart failure, as metformin use may exacerbate the condition. -Hypoglycemia: Monitor for signs of hypoglycemia, especially when initiating treatment. Adjust dose fo combination according to blood and urinary glucose levels during the first few months.
Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, such as nausea and diarrhea. Serious side effects are rare but may include hypoglycemia, lactic acidosis (with metformin), and skin reactions.
-Beta-Blockers: May mask symptoms of hypoglycemia. -NSAIDs: Increased risk of lactic acidosis with metformin.
