GRANISETRON
Granisetron is a medication used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy and radiation therapy. It belongs to a class of drugs known as serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonists.-Prevention of nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy, including high-dose chemotherapy. -Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with radiation therapy.
-The typical adult oral dose for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting is 2 mg once daily or divided into two doses of 1 mg each. -For radiation-induced nausea and vomiting, the usual dose is 2 mg once daily.
Granisetron should not be used in patients who are hypersensitive to the drug or any component of the formulation.
-Use caution in patients with impaired hepatic function. -Monitor patients with severe renal impairment. -Use with caution in patients with cardiac disease, as there may be potential for QT prolongation.
Common side effects may include headache, constipation, diarrhea, and fatigue. Less commonly, there may be reports of dizziness, abdominal pain, or allergic reactions.
Granisetron may interact with other medications, particularly those that also affect serotonin levels or QT interval. It is essential to inform healthcare providers of all medications being taken.
