GRISEOFULVIN
It is active against dermatophytes, including Epidermophyton, Trichophyton, Microsporum etc. but not against Candida and other fungi, causing deep mycoses.Fungal infections of skin; nails and scalp. Tinea of hands and beard, athlete’s foot.
Adults: 500-1000 mg daily with meals as a single dose or divided doses. Children: 10 mg/kg body wt (125-250 mg) daily in single or divided doses.
Severe liver disease. Porphyria, monilial infection, SLE, hypersensitivity.
long term use. Paediatrics: Reduced dose necessary. Pregnancy: Safety not established. Lactation: Use with caution. Elderly: Safe.
Drowsiness, headache, gastric distress, urticaria, photosensitivity.
Reduces efficacy of oral anticoagulants and failure of contraceptives. Barbiturates reduces its efficiency, may cause headache, dyspnoea, nausea, flushing. Others: alcohol.
