HEPATITIS B immunoglobulin
Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin (HBIG) is a medication used to prevent the development of Hepatitis B in individuals exposed to the virus. It contains antibodies that provide passive immunity against Hepatitis B, often used in post-exposure prophylaxis.-Prevention of Hepatitis B virus infection following exposure (e.g., needle-stick injuries, sexual exposure). -Post-exposure prophylaxis in newborns of Hepatitis B-positive mothers. -Protection of individuals at high risk of Hepatitis B infection.
-For Post-Exposure Prophylaxis: Typically administered as a single dose of 0.06 mL/kg intramuscularly within 24 hours of exposure. -For Newborns of Hepatitis B Positive Mothers: Administered as a single dose of 0.5 mL intramuscularly within 12 hours of birth.
-Hypersensitivity to human immune globulin or any component of the formulation. -Severe allergic reactions to previous doses.
-Caution is advised in individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis. -Monitor for potential adverse reactions, especially if administered to patients with a history of such reactions.
-Common: Fever, headache, fatigue, injection site reactions (pain, redness, swelling). -Rare: Allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, rash.
-May interact with live vaccines, reducing their effectiveness. -Monitor interaction with other immunoglobulins or blood products.
