HUMAN CHORIONIC GONADOTROPHIN
It is a hormonal substance obtained from human pregnancy urine. In the female, its action is predominantly luteinizing. In the male, its action is predominantly steridogenic and can also initate and maintain spermatogenesis.In female : Anovulatory infertility superovulation for an assisted conception-technique. Corpus luteum insufficiency. Habitual abortion.Threatened abortion. In male : Hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism. Cryptorchidism. Oligoasthenospermia and azoospermia.
Anovulatory infertility & superovulation: 10,000 i.u. Corpus luteum insufficiency : 5,000 i.u. i.m. on 5th day after ovulation repeated on 9th day. Habitual & threatend abortion : 10,000 i.u. followed by 5,000 i.u. twice weekly. Male : Hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism : 2,000 i.u. twice weekly. Cryptochidism : 500-1,000 i.u. on alternate days. Oligo-asthenospermia & azoosper-mia. 500 i.u. every day or 2,500 i.u. every 5 days.
Hypersensitivity. Pituitary or ovarian tumour,prostatic carcinoma or androgen dependent neoplasm. Endocrine disorders. Ovarian dys-genesis,absent uterus,premature menopause, tubal occlussion. Active thrombophlebitis. Weight reduction.
Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Incidence of multiple pregnancies & births is increased. False result of pregnancy tes, breast feeding. In males may cause fluid retention (caution in patients with cardiac, renal disease, epilepsy, migraine or asthma). Sexual precocity.
Local reaction or pain at injection site. Headache, tiredness, mental depression, irritability, restlessness. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, oedema, gynaecomastia.
