Letrozole
Letrozole is an oral medication classified as an aromatase inhibitor. It works by reducing the amount of estrogen in the body, making it useful in the treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. Letrozole is available as tablets for oral administration.Advanced breast cancer in post-menopausal women, pre-operative treatment in post-menopausal women with localised hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer (to allow subsequent breast conserving surgery).
The usual recommended dosage of Letrozole for breast cancer treatment is 2.5 mg once daily. The duration of treatment varies depending on the individual case and the physician's assessment. For fertility treatments, the dosage may vary and is usually prescribed for a specific cycle.
Severe hepatic impairment, premenopausal women.
Severe renal impairment.
Diarrhoea, abdominal pain, anorexia or weight gain, dyspnoea, chest pain, dizziness, rash, pruritus, vomiting, dyspepsia, constipation, hot flushes, nausea.
-Tamoxifen, as it may reduce the efficacy of Letrozole. -Medications affecting liver enzymes (CYP450), which may alter the metabolism of Letrozole. -Patients should discuss their current medications with their healthcare provider before starting Letrozole.
