LEVOBUNOLOL
Levobunolol is a nonselective beta adrenoceptor antagonist with no significant local anaesthetic or intrinsic sympathomimetic activity. It is similar to timolol in efficacy, potency and safety. Levobunolol decreases IOP with little or no effect on pupillary size or accomodation in contrast to the miosis which chlolinergic agents are known to produce.Indicated for lowering intraocular pressure in chronic open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
Starting dose: 1 to 2 drops in the affected eye once a day. Severe glaucoma: 1 to 2 drops twice a day.
Bronchial asthma/severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sinus bradycardia, second and third degree AV block, overt cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock, hypersensitivity to any of the ingredient present.
Pregnancy, nursing mothers and paediatric use. In patients with non-allergic bronchospasm, with diabetes mellits who are concurrently receiving insulin or oral hypoglycaemic agents.
Transient ocular burning and stinging, decrease in heart rate and blood pressure, urticaria, pruritus, decreased corneal sensitivity. Iridocyclitis, headache, transient ataxia, dizziness & lethargy.
Oral beta blockers, concomittant therapy with levobunolol and epinephrine, catecholamine - depleting drugs.
