MEROPENEM
Meropenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic used to treat severe bacterial infections. It is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.-Complicated skin and soft tissue infections -Complicated intra-abdominal infections -Complicated urinary tract infections -Nosocomial pneumonia -Meningitis
-Adults: 500 mg to 1 g administered intravenously every 8 hours. The dosage may be adjusted based on the severity of the infection and the patient's renal function. -Pediatric patients: Dosage should be determined by a healthcare professional based on the child's weight and infection type.
-Hypersensitivity to meropenem or other beta-lactam antibiotics. -Known history of severe allergic reactions to carbapenems, penicillins, or cephalosporins.
-Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures. -Adjust dosage in cases of severe renal impairment. -Monitor for signs of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
-Nausea and vomiting -Diarrhea -Rash -Headache -Dizziness -Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis -Seizures (in rare cases)
-May reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives. -Caution when used with other drugs that affect renal function or have potential for nephrotoxicity. -Potential interaction with probenecid which can increase meropenem levels.
