MUPIROCIN
It is a topical sterile antibiotic for the treatment of common bacteria skin infections. It is prepared by the fermentation of pseudomonas fluorescens. It inhibits in-vivo the synthesis of bacterical proteins by specific and reversible binding to isoleucyl transfer-RNA synthetase bacterical enzyme. Due to this particular mode of action, mupirocin does not show any cross-resistance with other antibiotics.Primary skin infections: Impetigo, folliculitis, furunculosis and ecthyma. Secondary infections: Infected dermatosis e.g. infected traumatic lesions like abrasions, insect bites, minor wounds and minor burns. Prophylaxis: Mupirocin may be used to avoid bacterial contamination of small wounds, incisons and other clean lesions and to prevent infection of abrasions and small cuts and wounds.
-Topical Ointment: Apply a small amount to the affected area 3 times a day. The treated area may be covered with a gauze dressing if desired. -Nasal Ointment: Apply approximately half of the ointment from a single-use tube into one nostril and the other half into the other nostril twice daily (morning and evening) for 5 days.
Hypersensitivity, not suitable for ophthalamic or intranasal use.
Special Precautions: Avoid the eyes. Paediatrics: Use with caution. Pregnancy & Lactation: Avoid. Elderly: Safe.
Itching, burning, erythema, stinging and dryness localised to the area of application.
Mixing of mupirocin ointment with other preparaion may dilute mupirocin content and lead to reduction in antibacterial activity.
