OXAZEPAM
It exerts prompt action in a variety of disorders associated with anxiety, tension, agitation and irritability, and with anxiety associated with depression. Its probable mode of action is that of any other benzodiazepines.Anxiety disorders. Tension stress of everyday life, agitation, irritability in older patients. Alcoholics with acute tremulousness, inebriation, or anxiety with alcohol withdrawal.
10-15 mg 3-4 times daily. For severe anxiety syndromes 15-30 mg, 3-4 times daily.
Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines. Children under 6 yrs.
Acute narrow angle glaucoma, renal or hepatic impairment. Transient amnesia or memory impairment, periodic blood counts & liver function tests. Paediatrics:Contraindicated below the age of 6 years. Pregnancy: Use only, if clearly indicated. Lactation: Use with caution. Elderly: Reduced dose may be necessary.
Drowsiness, dizziness, vertigo, headache, hypotension, blurred vision, disorientation, fever, skin rashes, drug dependence.
Potentiation of CNS depressants including general anaesthetics, narcotic analgesics, MAOIs and antidepressants. Prolongs half life of chlorodiazepoxide and diazepam, enhances alcohol, induces impairment of psychomotor skills.
