Tolperisone

A centrally acting muscle relaxant that is used to treat acute muscle spasms in back pain & spasiticity in neurological disease

Indications

Cross striated muscle caused by neurological disease. Spastic paralysis, encephalopathies (muscle dystonia). Muscular hypertonicity & muscular contraction (spondylosis, spondylarthrosis, cervial & lumbar syndromes, arthrosis, diabetical angiopahty, thromboangiitis, obliterans, Raynaud's syndrome


Dosage

Oral adult dose is 150mg-450mg in 2-4 hour period divided into two or three doses. Adult over 12 years old - Oral 50mg to 150mg every 8 hours. Pediatric Dosage : Minimum weight of 20kg minimum age 6 year old - oral dosage 1000mg/kg every 8 hrs. Neonatal dosage: Minimum weight of 3 kg - 2.500mg/kg every 8 hours.


Contra-Indications

Myasthenia, children under 1 year, pregnancy (1st trimester of pregnancy), Breast feeding.


Special Precautions

Should be taken in patients having: • Liver damage • Kidney disease • Heart surgery


Side Effects

Hypersensitivity, muscle weakness, vomating, nausea, dyspepsia, skin allergic reaction, skin rash, Quincke's edema, anaphylatic shock.


Drug Interactions

Few interaction with other medicine can enhance other neuromuscular blocking agents.
