TRIPOTASSIUM DICITRATOBISMUTHATE

(COLLOIDAL BISMUTH) : Like sucralfate, it appears to form a protective coating over gastric mucosa & ulcer base &has an inhibitory bactericidal effect on H.pylori.

Indications

Gastric & duodenal ulcer.

Dosage

480 mg daily in 2 divided doses 1/2 hr before meals for 4-8 wks.

Contra-Indications

Pregnancy, children, renal impairment.

Special Precautions

Prolong use due to bismuth toxicity, antacid and milk should be administered atleast 30 mins before or after. Paediatrics: Contraindicated. Pregnancy: Contraindicated. Lactation: Use with caution. Elderly: No special problem.

Side Effects

Stools & tongue may become black.

Drug Interactions

Inactivated wen taken with milk or antacids. Absorption of Tetracyclines reduced.
