ZAFIRLUKAST

Oral Leukotriene Receptor Antagonist (LTRA).

Indications

Used for prophylaxis and maintenance treatment of asthma, exercise, induced asthma and for relieving sympotms of allergic rhinitis. It is not indicated for acute asthma.

Dosage

Adults : 20mg twice daily, one hour before to two hours after meal. Children (5-11 yrs) : 10mg twice daily, one hour before to two hours after meal.

Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity to Zafirlukast or any of its ingredients.

Special Precautions

Eosinophilic Conditions (usually but not always associated with reduction or withdrawal of steroid therapy), Neuropsychiatric Events. Preganancy category B medication - to be used only if clearly needed. Not to be given in nursing mothers. Warnings : Hepatotoxicity, brochospasm, concomitant warfarin administration.

Side Effects

Hepatitis, hyperbilirubinemia.

Drug Interactions

Erythromycin, aspirin, warfarin and theophylline.
