Adrenaline Bitartrate is a medication used primarily in emergency situations to treat severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), cardiac arrest, and other critical conditions. It is a form of adrenaline (epinephrine) that is administered to stimulate the heart, constrict blood vessels, and relax airway muscles.

Indications

-Anaphylaxis: Immediate treatment of severe allergic reactions. -Cardiac Arrest: Used during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to stimulate heart function. -Asthma: Emergency relief of severe asthma attacks. -Severe Hypotension: Management of low blood pressure in critical situations.


Dosage

-Anaphylaxis: 0.3-0.5 mg intramuscularly (IM) every 5-15 minutes as needed, depending on the severity. -Cardiac Arrest: 1 mg intravenously (IV) every 3-5 minutes during CPR. -Asthma: 0.3-0.5 mg IM or subcutaneously (SC) every 20 minutes as needed.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity: Known allergy to adrenaline or any of its components. -Non-Emergent Use: Should not be used for routine or non-emergency conditions.


Special Precautions

-Cardiovascular Disease: Use with caution in patients with coronary artery disease or hypertension. -Diabetes: May affect blood glucose levels; monitor closely. -Pregnancy: Use only if clearly needed; potential risks to the fetus should be evaluated.


Side Effects

Nausea, dizziness, headache, weakness, palpitation, and difficulty in breathing.


Drug Interactions

Digoxin, levothyroxine, chlorpheniramine, ergot alkaloids, antihypertensive drugs, vasodilators, anti-depressant, and MAO inhibitors.
