AEGLE MARMELOS / BAEL

In Ayurveda, Aegle Marmelos is a fruit known as bael. It exhibits anti-bacterial, anticancer, antimalarial, antipyretic, analgesic, antioxidant, antiulcer, antifungal, antibacterial, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, contraceptive, hepatoprotective and radioprotective properties. Bael contains alkaloids, coumarins, and terpenoids as major chemical constituents.

Indications

Diabetes, diarrhoea, dysentery, abdominal pain, inflammation, urticaria, constipation, malaria, cancer, ulcers, and scurvy, earaches, skin problems, and respiratory disorders.


Dosage

The average dose of bael churna or powder is half a teaspoon (1 - 2 grams) twice a day, the dose of bael juice is half or one cup (100ml - 250ml) two times a day with water. The Average dose for Bael capsules or tablets is 1 or 2 capsules or tablets two times in a day.


Contra-Indications

Cardiovascular diseases, renal impairment.


Special Precautions

Consult a Physician before using it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.


Side Effects

Vomiting, stomach upset, dizziness, and breathlessness.


Drug Interactions

Antidiabetic drugs, and cholinergic drugs
