Alfacalcidol
Vitamin D substances are a group of closely related steroid compounds which possess antirachitic activity to varying degrees.Renal osteodystrophy, Hypocalaemia & Hyperphosphataemia, Vitamin D dependent rickets, renal tubular osteomalacia.
Adults : 1mcg/day, Elderly : 0.5mcg/day, Children under 20 kg : 0.05 mcg/kg/day. Premature infants & neonates: 0.05-0.1mcg/kg/day
Hypercalcaemia , hyperphosph-ataemia without Hypoparathyroidism and hyper-magnesaemia.
Renal impairment, monitor serum levels especially in patients with renal failure, hypercalciuria.
C.N.S depression, coma, hypercalcaemia, nausea, vomiting, thirst, constipation, drowsiness.
Phenobarbitone may reduce activation of alfacalcidol in to calcitriol, concurrent digitalis preparation may precipitate cardiac arrhythmias. Cholestyramine, cholestipol, sucralfate or large amounts of aluminium base actacids may reduce absorption.
