ALPHA BETA ARTEETHER

ALPHA BETA ARTEETHER is an antimalarial medication used to treat acute malaria, particularly in cases of drug-resistant Plasmodium falciparum. It is a combination of artemether and lumefantrine, which work together to eliminate malaria parasites from the bloodstream.

Indications

-Treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria. -Effective in cases of multi-drug resistant malaria strains.


Dosage

-Adults: Typically, the recommended dose is 4 tablets of ALPHA BETA ARTEETHER (containing 20 mg artemether and 120 mg lumefantrine per tablet) taken twice daily for 3 days. -Children: Dosage is based on weight and should be adjusted according to medical guidance.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to artemether, lumefantrine, or any other components of the drug. -Patients with severe liver impairment or severe renal impairment. -Pregnancy, particularly in the first trimester, unless absolutely necessary.


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of epilepsy or convulsions. -Monitor liver function regularly during treatment. -Avoid in patients with a history of heart disease or arrhythmias.


Side Effects

-Common: Nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, and abdominal pain. -Less common: Rash, itching, fever, and insomnia. -Rare: Severe allergic reactions, liver toxicity, and cardiac effects.


Drug Interactions

-May interact with medications that affect liver enzymes, such as certain antiepileptic drugs and HIV medications. -Caution with other antimalarial agents or quinine. -Avoid using with other medications that prolong the QT interval.
