ALPHACALCIDOL

It is an analogue of vitamin D. It is commercially available in oral as well as i.v. formulations.

Indications

Hypocalcemia, Hyperthyroidism, osteodystrophy, renal failure, rickets and osteomalacia.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity, hypocalcemia, hypervitaminosis, hepatic disorder, kidney disorder, diabetes, sarcoidosis, and malabsorption syndrome.


Special Precautions

Consult a physician before using it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.


Side Effects

Constipation, rash, itching, drowsiness, vomiting, weakness, muscle pain, and joint pain.


Drug Interactions

Antacids, Digoxin, Chlorothiazide, metolazone, indapamide,and digoxin.
