Alstonia Scholaris is commonly known as saptaparna in India. As per the Indian medicinal system, saptaparna possesses antimicrobial, anticancer, analgesic, antipyretic, vasodilatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunostimulant, antimalarial, and hepatoprotective activity. It is used to treat impotence, helps in wound healing and improves lactation in breastfeeding women. It acts as an antidote for snake bites.

Indications

Malaria, jaundice, asthma, impotency, snake bite, diarrhoea, hypertension, fever, toothache, tuberculosis ( T.B) loss of appetite, arthritis, splenomegaly, diabetes, and skin diseases.


Dosage

The recommended dose for saptaparna powder is 2-5 grams, and the dose for decoction is 20-50 ml daily in a divided dose.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity.


Special Precautions

It is suggested to avoid or consult a physician before using Saptaparna in pregnancy.


Side Effects

Allergic reactions, infertility.
