Alum

In the Ayurvedic system of medicine, alum is known as “Phitkari,” or “Sphatic Bhasma,” and is used to treat respiratory tract infections. It is also called aluminium sulphate or potash alum. It is a colourless, odourless, crystalline substance or powder. It has antibacterial, antiseptic, antiplatelet, antiobesity, anti-inflammatory, anti-hemorrhagic, antiasthmatic and anti-dandruff properties.

Indications

Whooping cough, asthma, piles, constipation, mouth ulcers, leucorrhea, overweight problems, gingivitis, acne, cracked heels, and skin infections.


Contra-Indications

Kidney disorder.

Side Effects

Skin rash, irritation, dizziness, inflammation, and allergic reactions.


Drug Interactions

Iron, digoxin, tetracycline antibiotics, quinolone antibiotics.
