Amlodipine and Enalapril

Combination of amlodipine and enalapril, as well as isolated amlodipine, was effective in the normalization of BP in pts with CAD and SAH stages I and II, adding blockage of the renin-angiotensin system.

Indications

Refractory hypertension, or essential hypertension co-existing with CCF or diabetic nephropathy.


Dosage

Once Daily.


Contra-Indications

Contraindicated in patients with hereditary or idiopathic angioedema and hypersensitivity.


Special Precautions

Volume depleted by diuretic therapy, dietary salt restriction, dialysis, diarrhoea or vomitting, severe renal disease, hepatic impairment or severe heart failure.


Side Effects

Hereditary angioedema, nausea, headache, cough, dizziness, fatigue, palpitations, chest pain, flushing, rash; increases in BUN, serum K & creatinine levels may occur, decrease in white blood cells and upper respiratory infection.


Drug Interactions

It is recommended that if you are taking enalapril you should be advised to avoid moderately high or high potassium dietary intake. This can cause high levels of potassium in your blood. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking enalapril, unless your doctor has told you to.
