CEFIXIME / ANHYDROUS CEFIXIME

Cefixime or anhydrous cefixime is a potent antibiotic agent and it inhibits the growth of bacteria and is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.

Indications

Bacterial infections such as bronchitis, tonsils, gonorrhoea ( sexually transmitted diseases) and urinary tract infection.


Dosage

For Adults 200-400 mg, per day in divided doses. For Children ( 6 months -12 years old)- 8 mg per day in divided dose.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity or allergy to any antibiotic.


Special Precautions

Consult a physician before using it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.


Side Effects

Rashes, abdominal pain, fever, chills, difficulty in breathing and swelling on face, tongue, and throat.


Drug Interactions

Similar antibiotics such as cefaclor, cefazolin, cefprozil, etc should not be used in combination with cefixime.
