ANTIBIOTICS

These are substances produced by microorganisms and are significantly used to inhibit growth or kill bacterial infection. Antibiotics There are mainly two types of antibiotics: Bactericidal ( kills bacteria) and Bacteriostatic (inhibits the growth of bacteria).

Indications

Bacterial infections such as Strep throat, Urinary Tract Infection, E.coli infection, and ear infection.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity to antibiotics. Extreme caution: Pregnant, lactating mothers, infants and Children.


Special Precautions

Sometimes patients experience antibiotic resistance.


Side Effects

Nausea, rash, diarrhoea, stomach upset, body ache, coughing, difficulty breathing.


Drug Interactions

Warfarin, Anticonvulsant drugs such as phenytoin, phenobarbitone, and oral antidiabetic drugs like Tolbutamide.
