ARJUN

Arjun is obtained from the Terminalia Arjun tree. It exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antitumor, antiasthmatic, antiallergic, anti-HIV, anti-hypertensive, hypolipidemic, astringent, and anticoagulant properties. According to Ayurveda, it is a potent cardiotonic and able to treat different cardiac issues. Arjuna is also used in the preparation of a famous ayurvedic formulation known as ‘Arjunarishta’.

Indications

Hypertension, palpitation, atherosclerosis, heart blockage, heart failure, angina, chest pain, ulcers, asthma, cough, osteoporosis, abdominal discomfort, hair loss, diabetes, and skin disorders.


Dosage

An average dose for arjuna powder is 3-6 grams, water decoction 50-100ml and milk decoction 20-30 ml daily in a divided dose. The average dose for arjunarishta is 10-20 ml once or twice a day after meals.


Contra-Indications

Constipation, and renal impairment.


Special Precautions

Consult a Physician before using it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.


Side Effects

Headache, gastritis, vomiting, and constipation.


Drug Interactions

Anticoagulant drugs, antidiabetic drugs, omeprazole, and chlorzoxazone.
