Atenolol and Chlorthalidone in combination are used to treat hypertension ( high blood pressure) and cardiac arrest. Atenolol belongs to the beta blockers category. Chlorthalidone belongs to a group of drugs known as diuretics or water pills. Atenolol with Chlorthalidone is a combination medication that contains two active ingredients: Atenolol, a beta-blocker, and Chlorthalidone, a diuretic. Atenolol works by blocking the effects of certain natural chemicals in the body, such as adrenaline, which can affect the heart and blood vessels. Chlorthalidone helps the body to remove excess salt and water by increasing urine production.

Indications

Hypertension, cardiac arrest, arrhythmias, angina and fluid retention caused due to heart failure.


Dosage

The dosage of Atenolol with Chlorthalidone should be individualized based on the patient's response to treatment. It is essential to follow the prescribed dosage and administration instructions provided by the healthcare provider.


Contra-Indications

Kidney diseases, hypersensitivity, liver disorders, pulmonary diseases, Raynaud’s diseases, diabetes, gout, electrolyte imbalance, and thyroid disorder.


Special Precautions

Consult a Physician before using it during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consuming alcohol while using atorvastatin and aspirin can cause chronic toxicity.


Side Effects

Nausea, abdominal discomfort, lightheadedness, dehydration, muscle cramps, fatigue, joint pain, allergic reactions ( rash, inflammation, redness), and depression.


Drug Interactions

Diuretics, antidepressants ( lithium), and NSAIDs ( non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like naproxen and ibuprofen.
