Beclomethasone Furoate

Beclomethasone furoate is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid used primarily as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agent. It is available in various forms such as nasal sprays and inhalers.

Indications

-Inhalation: Treatment of asthma as maintenance therapy in adults and children. -Nasal Spray: Management of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis.


Dosage

-Asthma (Inhalation): Typically administered as 40-160 mcg per day, divided into two inhalations. -Allergic Rhinitis (Nasal Spray): Usually administered as 55 mcg per day, divided into one spray per nostril.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity to beclomethasone furoate or any component of the formulation.


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with tuberculosis, fungal, bacterial, or viral infections of the respiratory tract. -Monitor growth in children receiving prolonged treatment.


Side Effects

Common side-effects may include throat irritation (inhalation), nasal discomfort (nasal spray), headache, and nausea. Rarely, systemic effects such as adrenal suppression and osteoporosis may occur with prolonged use.


Drug Interactions

-Concurrent use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase systemic exposure to beclomethasone furoate. -Use with caution with other corticosteroids due to potential additive effects.
