Benidipine Hcl

Benidipine is a dihydropyridine (DHP) calcium channel blocker with general properties similar to those of nifedipine. Its high affinity combined with slow dissociation from DHP receptors is responsible for prolonged pharmacological effects despite low serum concentration.

Indications

Hypertension and long-term prophylactic management of angina pectoris.


Dosage

Hypertension: 4mg once daily after breakfast. maximum recommended dose 8mg once daily. Angina Pectoris: 4mg twice daily after breakfast, supper.


Contra-Indications

Pregnancy, Hypersensitivity.


Special Precautions

Not to handle dangerous machines or work at elevated spots when on Benidipine therapy. Reduce the dose gradually under careful observation. Paediatrics: Safety not established. Pregnancy: Not recommended. Lactation: Not recommended. Elderly: Should be administered initially at a lower dose and with careful monitoring of blood pressure.


Side Effects

Headache, facial flushing, vomiting, palpitation, dizziness, lightheadedness and malaise.


Drug Interactions

Digoxin, cimetidine, antihypertensive agents.
