Betahistine

It is an orally active histamine analogue. It has been used to control vertigo in patients of Meniere’s syndrome; possibly acts by causing vasodilatation in the internal ear.

Indications

Vertigo, Meniere’s syndrome

Dosage

8-16 mg thrice daily after meals.

Contra-Indications

Asthmatics, phaeochromo- cytoma, pregnancy, lactation, peptic ulcer. Children below 12 years.

Special Precautions

Concurrent admin. of anihistamines ,bronchial asthma. Haemorrhage. Paediatrics: Not recommended. Pregnancy: Safety not established. Lactation: Use with caution. Elderly: No special problem.

Side Effects

G.I. upset, C.N.S. disturbances.
