Bromhexine
Bromhexine is a mucolytic agent used to treat respiratory conditions associated with excessive mucus production, such as chronic bronchitis and asthma. It works by breaking down mucus, making it easier to clear from the airways.-Chronic bronchitis -Asthma with excessive mucus -Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) -Cystic fibrosis
-Adults: 8-16 mg three times daily. -Children: 4-8 mg three times daily, depending on age and weight.
Peptic ulcer, renal impairment, hepatic disorder, and asthma.
-Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment. -Monitor for gastrointestinal bleeding in patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease. -Not recommended during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary.
-Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) -Allergic reactions (rash, itching) -Headache and dizziness -Dry mouth
-May enhance the effect of antibiotics when used concurrently. -Caution when used with other medications that may cause gastrointestinal irritation.
