Calcium Aspartate is a calcium supplement commonly used to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels in individuals who do not get enough calcium from their diet. It provides the essential mineral calcium, which is vital for the formation and maintenance of healthy bones and teeth.

Indications

-Prevention and treatment of calcium deficiency -Osteoporosis -Osteomalacia (softening of bones) -Hypocalcemia (low levels of calcium in the blood) -Rickets (a disease in children caused by vitamin D deficiency, leading to soft bones)


Dosage

-Adults: Typically, 500 mg to 1500 mg per day, divided into multiple doses, as directed by a healthcare provider. -Children: Dosage should be determined by a healthcare provider based on age, weight, and medical condition.


Contra-Indications

-Hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium in the blood) -Severe renal impairment -Kidney stones (nephrolithiasis) -Hypersensitivity to calcium aspartate or any component of the formulation


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of kidney stones. -Monitor calcium levels in patients with renal impairment. -Ensure adequate hydration to reduce the risk of kidney stones. -Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare provider before use.


Side Effects

-Gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea, vomiting, constipation) -Hypercalcemia (symptoms include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, confusion, increased thirst, and urination) -Risk of kidney stones


Drug Interactions

-May decrease the absorption of certain medications such as bisphosphonates, tetracyclines, and fluoroquinolones. -Concurrent use with vitamin D can increase the risk of hypercalcemia. -May interfere with the absorption of other minerals such as iron, magnesium, and zinc.
